It was during the 1940s til the year 1975 were the dolls featured as artist dolls. It was then during the years of 1964 to 1986 and from 1995 to 2001 when they finally joined the bandwagon of the growing number of dolls made out of vinyl.

Sasha Morgenthaler, who was born in 1893, personally trained herself as a studio artist and handmade all the dolls since 1940s until her death in the year 1975. She also did not forget to give the license of rights to the two worthy companies that will continue producing her Sasha Dolls. Sasha realized that not all children can afford her expensive dolls so she made it to a point to give the rights of producing her dolls to the companies that can produce her dolls as cheaply as possible. The German company Gotz was one of the two companies that received the production rights to continue producing Sasha Dolls. Frido/Trenton Ltd. who produced the dolls from 1965 through 1986. The size, materials and characteristics are also distinct in some ways. The original studio art dolls made by Sasha herself are made either out of cloth or gypsum bodies. It was then the two companioes of Gotz and Frido/Trenton Ltd. that introduced the materials of vinyl as the main component the Sasha Dolls. The vinyl dolls in particular have a great set eyes and rooted hair. On the other hand, the general height of the Sasha Dolls that were produced ranges between sixteen to seventeen inches tall. This particular height measurement varied upon the addition of more types of Sasha Dolls. The art dolls created by Frido/Trenton Ltd. has a height that range between nineteen to twenty inches while those play dolls that are more suited for kids has a height that range from twelve to thirteen inches. It is because of the great designs of these Sasha Dolls that they are regarded as one of the most expensive dolls in the world today.

Original Sasha Dolls will normally sell for thousands and thousands of dollars especially if the body parts are in excellent condition. The early Gotz Dolls are marked however by Sasha Series by stamping the dolls on the back torso and the head. Male Sasha dolls are also called by the name of Gregor while the other types of related Sasha dolls have names like Cora, Ruth and Caleb.
